About me
Cathy McVey, VISIT PHILADELPHIA’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Integration, ensures cross-departmental alignment and amplification of all messaging across departments. As the tourism marketing organization’s longest-tenured employee, McVey is responsible for capturing, cultivating and projecting the voice of Philadelphia’s iconically historic past, proud and gritty city pride and overall uniqueness.
An effective, thoughtful and creative leader, McVey oversees a team of content creators and editors who bring to life core Visit Philadelphia campaigns, including Come for Philadelphia, Stay for Philly and In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union. Her purview also includes the organization’s robust website that serves as a guide to Greater Philadelphia events and attractions, media communications, and regional and national advertising.
McVey became Visit Philadelphia’s Editorial Director in 2010, helping to lead an award-winning communications team that received numerous recognitions, including from Hospitality & Marketing Association International, PRNews and the Public Relations Society of America. In that role, she managed a team of in-house and contracted writers, photographers, fact-checkers and proofreaders. Before that, she served as the nonprofit’s writer and editor, creating, fact-checking and proofreading press materials, corporate communications and consumer collateral while managing a network of freelance contributors.
McVey initially joined Visit Philadelphia in 2000 as a public relations coordinator during the company’s startup phase, when it was known as the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Organization. McVey holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Temple University and a master’s in English and publishing from Rosemont College. She previously worked as an editorial assistant at MetroKids, a weekly publication for families with children.
McVey is the founder and executive director of Honey’s Angels, a nonprofit that honors her late mother and father by providing food assistance to struggling Philadelphia-area families and seniors, with a special emphasis on holidays. She serves on the Hospitality & Corporate Council of Broad Street Love, a stabilizing services nonprofit for Philadelphians experiencing deep poverty. Born and raised in Port Richmond, McVey and her family reside in suburban Philadelphia.
