About me
As Vice President of Communications at Visit Philadelphia®, Jenea Robinson leads a department that performs strategic national and regional media outreach to earn coverage that inspires travel to Greater Philadelphia. Jenea and her team also share the story of the nonprofit tourism marketing organization itself, highlighting dedicated staff, innovative projects and the importance of tourism on the local economy. Having worked for Visit Philadelphia for nine years cumulatively, she assumed her current role in 2024.
Under Jenea’s leadership, the Visit Philadelphia communications team has earned numerous national media placements, showcasing the city as a premier destination for food enthusiasts, a center for arts and culture and a community that celebrates its small businesses and neighborhoods.
The team has successfully propelled the city into the limelight, earning national media accolades from prestigious outlets such as Travel + Leisure, Lonely Planet, The New York Times, Essence Magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, and more. They have created positive media buzz around several groundbreaking initiatives like Visit Philadelphia’s In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union, a campaign that employs unconventional activations and diverse messaging to position Philadelphia as an eminently welcoming place for visitors of all backgrounds and viewpoints.
Jenea previously served as Visit Philadelphia’s Director of Public Relations, steering national communications and marketing for three core diverse markets: African American, Latino, and LGBTQ+. Her work culminated in the 2017 travel video campaign "We Got You: Philly," featuring The Roots’ MC Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter, which amassed over 10 million views.
Jenea’s journey through the public relations landscape began outside the tourism sector, where she honed her skills working on public relations campaigns in the pharmaceutical industry and later managing lifestyle and nonprofit accounts at Skai Blue Media in Philadelphia. She also brought her expertise to the event management arena at Perfection Events, orchestrating everything from intimate corporate gatherings to large-scale galas and conferences.
Before returning to the tourism industry, Jenea expanded her consultancy, fostering her passion for tourism and hospitality. She provided communications and PR support for entities like the Colored Girls Museum, Lincoln University, South Street Headhouse District, Bynum Hospitality Group, and the Museum of the American Revolution, supporting a wide array of small businesses and nonprofits.
A proud alumna of Howard University, Jenea’s roots trace back to Hartford, Connecticut, but her heart and home are firmly planted in Philadelphia with her husband and two bonus children. Jenea’s work is a testament to the power of using strategic communication to transform cityscapes and empower Black and Brown communities.
