Chairman Jordan A. Harris is a proud South Philadelphia native, educator, and public servant who serves as Majority Chairman of the Pennsylvania House Appropriations Committee and State Representative for the 186th Legislative District. A graduate of Millersville University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, he later received a Master of Education from Cabrini University.
Before entering public office, Chairman Harris was a teacher and youth leader in the Philadelphia School District, experiences that shaped his commitment to expanding opportunity for young people and working families. First elected in 2012, he made history as the first African American to serve as both Democratic Caucus Whip and Democratic Appropriations Chair. His expertise includes state budgeting, fiscal policy, education funding, and criminal justice reform. He was a leading architect of Pennsylvania’s nationally recognized Clean Slate Law and continues to focus on policies that promote affordability, fairness, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.
